The year 2026 will mark a special chapter in the history of the competition. After eight years, the Slovenian national choral competition Naša pesem will once again – for the third time – be complemented by the final of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing (EGP), the most prestigious competition in the world of choral music, held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar.
This event represents the highest international level and is organized by the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia in cooperation with the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing Association (EGP) – an international association of six leading European choral competitions. The Gallus – Maribor Competition has been a full member of the EGP association since 2008, while the association itself has been active since 1988.
The winners of each member competition compete in the following season in the final for one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of choral singing. The 2026 final will be particularly remarkable for Slovenian musical creativity: two Slovenian choirs will perform in the final, which is a rare occurrence in the history of the competition. Their appearance on the home stage represents an exceptional recognition of Slovenian choral culture and an important moment for Slovenian cultural space.
